China Work Visa (Z visa) is issued to foreign citizens who are to take up a post of employment in China, or to give commercial performances. Z visa is usually issued for single entry and needs to be converted to a Residence Permit at local public security authorities within 30 days following foreigners’ arrival. Permit holders may then stay in China, exit and re-enter China multiple times without the need of a visa during the validity period of the permit.

Qualification of employers
Employers need to be legally registered and meet specific requirements to hire foreign workers in China. Many companies are not authorized to hire foreigners. For example, some language schools hire foreign English teachers without providing them a work visa due to the schools’ lack of necessary credentials or unfamiliarity with the application procedures. As a result, not only have foreign English teachers wasted their time and money on routinely doing a 'visa run' to Hong Kong in order to renew their non-work visas but more importantly, they are not allowed to work in the country, and the consequences of working illegally in China can be serious.
